Hull is a psychic investigator and a medium/clairvoyant. She has had a lifelong interest in the paranormal and began psychic development study at the age of 13. Climate Change Documentary Slated At Neumann

Neumann University will hold a screening of the Academy Award-nominated documentary, “Sun Come Up,” 9:45a.m., Thursday (Oct. 4) in the McNichol Room of the Life Center.
The film depicts some of the world’s first “forced climate migrants,” inhabitants of the Carteret Islands just north of Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
The event is free and open to the public.
The national screening, scheduled for hundreds of locations across the country on the same day, and is organized by the Catholic Coalition on Climate Change in celebration of the Oct. 4 Feast of St. Francis, who was named “patron saint of those who promote ecology,” by Blessed Pope John Paul II in 1979.
The screening will be followed by a discussion, and viewers will explore ways to respond in light of Church teaching on climate change and the environment.
The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops points out in “Global Climate Change and Our Catholic Response” that recent popes “have continually emphasized the moral dimensions of climate change and our responsibility to care for creation.”
According to Dr. Elaine Grose, assistant professor of environmental studies at Neumann, “Pope Benedict XVI and the U.S. Bishops have recognized the human causes of climate change and understand it as a moral issue. They call on people of faith and good will to address this challenge.”
“Predictions of a warming planet are now becoming reality,” says Grose, “People around the world are experiencing increased drought, wildfire, flooding, food and water stresses, disease, and population displacement. These phenomena compromise key elements of Catholic social teaching, including our commitments to protect human life and dignity and to be especially mindful of the poor and vulnerable, who are disproportionately harmed by environmental degradation and climate change.”
The screening is sponsored by the University’s Care of Creation Committee. To reserve a seat, call Elaine Grose at 610-358-4240.

The Arc of Delco Announces ‘Family Forum’

The Arc of Delaware County will host “Family Forum” 10 am -12 pm Tues. (October 23) at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, 200 Yale Avenue, Morton. The purpose of this event is for self-advocates and their families to share their personal stories and concerns for the future in an effort to assist  Friel as he continues to develop a plan for the future of services within the DPW/ODP system in PA.  Deputy Secretary Friel believes that it is essential to hear our stories as he strives to create a stronger system of supports throughout our community.
The system is changing and it is important that all voices be heard. With the current budget limitations, people could be at risk of losing services, and many who are on the waiting list will continue to wait for services. The Deputy needs to hear how devastating this would be. They also need to hear how local residents feel the system should change to better serve  needs and allow for people to live more independent lives.
Light refreshments will be served. Reservations are required. To reserve a seat, call The Arc at 610-544-6600 or email skent@thearcofdelco.org by Wed., Oct. 17.

PA's Veterans Museum in Media Receives Donation; Museum Offers FREE Admission Each and Every Day!

The Pennsylvania Veterans Museum received a welcome donation from one of Media’s many financial institutions, DNB First Bank. Executive Vice President Albert Melfi presented the check. On hand to gladly accept the gift characterized as “generous,” were PVA Chairman Emeritus Ed Buffman, Chairman Arthur Burn and Museum Administrator Jolene Buffman.
Melfi has supported the PVM since its conception about a decade ago through DNB as well as another banking institution where he was previously employed.
“It’s important for people to be able to understand the trials and tribulations of all those who served, and especially for younger people to understand what it took to be free. This museum provides that opportunity through exhibits, films, education and other outreach,” said Melfi.
Although the PVM has a strong volunteer component, particularly of veterans who are on hand to answer questions and interact with visitors, there are operating expenses. In the economic climate of the last several years, grant funding has been more difficult to obtain.
The museum has pioneered several films featuring the Tuskegee Airmen and women in the military, both of which have been shown to military and civilian dignitaries in Washington, D.C.
In a classic “win-win” situation, the PVM benefits from any and all donations, corporate or private. Donors, such as DNB, qualify for an Educational Improvement Tax Credit, a program administrated by the commonwealth.
“This donation helps us do what do for young and old; the museum experience is good for all ages,” said Burn.
(For information on the museum, including hours open to the public (free admission), go to www.paveteransmuseum.org.)

Through Its “Crafting a Better World” Program at All Stores from
September 9 through October 13, 2012
Free Make & Take Scheduled for Saturday, September 22 in Support
For the second year in a row, East Coast retailer, A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts (www.acmoore.com) along with its associates and customers, will team up to raise funds now through Oct. 13, 2012, for the American Cancer Society through A.C. Moore’s “Crafting a Better World” Program.”  This initiative coincides with the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® campaign in October, and gives customers an opportunity to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.
Customers can also show their support to this cause by creating a Pink Ribbon Pin at a free Make & Take set for Saturday, September 22nd from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Utilizing supplies donated by Me & My Big Ideas® and American Crafts™, adults and children can craft their support with glittery pink ribbon papers, pens and stickers.
“Last year, our stores collectively raised more than $123,000 in just a short period of time,” said Pepe Piperno, Chairman of the Board of A.C. Moore. “This year, we are hoping to surpass that amount. The American Cancer Society is an organization that has truly made a difference in the world of so many who have fought and are continuing to fight breast cancer.”
Making Strides is the largest network of breast cancer awareness events in the nation, uniting more than 270 communities to fund the fight. Making Strides walkers turn awareness into action by raising more than $60 million for the American Cancer Society each year – one dollar at a time – to save lives from breast cancer. Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free resources and support to the 1 in 2 women newly diagnosed with breast cancer who turn to us for information and help, as well as support groundbreaking research to find, prevent, treat, and cure breast cancer.
"We appreciate the support of A.C. Moore for our efforts in the fight against breast cancer," said Roshini George, national vice president of health promotions for the American Cancer Society. "These funds will enable the Society to continue its progress against the disease by fighting for every birthday threatened by breast cancer in every community."
This fundraising program is part of A.C. Moore's "Crafting a Better World” Program which helps local communities.  Since its launch in 2010, the program has raised more than $900,000 for not-for-profit organizations that provide services in the communities in which A.C. Moore stores operate.

The third of four household hazardous waste collections to help Delaware County residents remove toxic products, computers, TVs and more from their homes will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sep. 13 at Rose Tree Park on Route 252 in Upper Providence.
Residents of the five-county area under a regional collection program are permitted to take acceptable products for disposal to the site.  There is no charge to residents to drop off the acceptable materials.
County residents can take acceptable products to locations in the five-county area as part of a coordinated regional household hazardous waste education, collection and management program, Civera said.  Computer equipment, fax machines and portable televisions as well as small appliances will be collected
Household hazardous waste products which will be collected can be found in the home in the bathroom, kitchen, living areas, garage, basement and utility room, she said.
Categories of products to take to the household hazardous waste collections include flammables, pesticides, caustics, toxics, rechargeable household batteries, lead-acid batteries and propane tanks which weigh less than 20 pounds.
Residents may take oil-based paint, paint thinner, varnish, kerosene, gasoline, motor oil, antifreeze, weed killers, fungicides, items containing mercury and cell phones.
Residents should not mix materials. They should tighten lids on all containers. If containers are leaking, they should be packed in a larger container with newsprint to absorb the leaks. Products should be brought in original containers with labels.
Products which won’t be accepted at the collections are any unidentifiable waste, latex paint, appliances, asbestos, biological waste, explosives, gas cylinders, alkaline batteries, PCBs, pressurized CFCs and radioactive waste.
Latex paint as well as joint compound, roof cements, asphalt sealers, caulking compounds and aerosol cans can be discarded with other residential trash.
No tires or commercial or industrial waste will be accepted.
The last recycling day will be on Saturday, Oct.13 at the Upper Chichester Township Building, 8500 Furey Road.
Organizers recommend residents take their materials to the collection site nearest their home. The program will be conducted as scheduled regardless of weather conditions.
A list of materials that will be collected, a full list of collections for the five-county area, and directions to those collection locations are posted on the County’s Green Pages section of the County Web site, www.co.delaware.pa.us/green, under “Waste and Recycling.” For additional information, contact the Delaware County Solid Waste Authority at 610-892-9627.

Historian Keith Lockhart will talk about how dozens of covered bridges once crossed many of the county’s creeks. Pennsylvania leads the nation with 197 covered bridges remaining intact. Sadly, in Delco, only the Bartram Bridge of Crum Creek remains.
The first covered bridge in America was built over the Schuylkill river in 1800.
The lectures are FREE and open to the public.
Upcoming talks include “Brandywine Valley Ghosts” on Oct. 15 and “Holidays in History and Folklore,” Nov. 19.

Delaware County Fair This Week At Granite Run Mall Features 'Special Kids Night' When Those With Disabilities Can Enjoy FREE Rides

The 36th Annual Delaware County Fair, hosted by the Glen Riddle and Concordville Chadds Ford Rotary Clubs will kick off tonight (Sept. 12) at Granite Run Mall and run through Sunday (Sept. 16).
Since inception at Rose Tree Park in the 1970s, Rotary carries on the tradition to raise funds for organizations such as Children and Adult Disability Education Services (CADES), Operation Warm, scholarships and other local charities. Thus far, the fair has raised over $1 million for Delco children and families in need.
This year’s fair is being held at Granite Run Mall on Baltimore Pike in Middletown Township, across from Riddle Hospital. Majestic Midways will provide all new amusement rides, food and games for all ages. There will also be appearances by TV cartoon characters, music and much more.
A major focus of the fair is Special Kids Night when Rotarians welcome children and adults with disabilities to enjoy free rides all night.
Anti-Bullying Awareness Night is set for Friday (Sept. 14), when Teach Anti-Bullying will host games, raffles, educational programs and entertainment.
Another outreach of Rotary will bring Child Identification Program (CHIP), sponsored by the PA Free Masons and Rick’s Sheds of Aston. Children will be fingerprinted and their DNA samples secured for identification purposes. The program is free.
“Without a doubt, the fair is one of the most rewarding events in which I have been involved,” said fair founding member and former Delco Chamber President Jack Holefelder. “To see the faces of the children who benefit from this event makes all of the hard work on the part of the organizers and sponsors worthwhile. I certainly hope the community will come out and support this great community event.”
Fair dates and times are:
Wednesday, 6 to 10p.m., Special Kids Night
Thursday, 6 to 10p.m.,
Friday, 6 to 10p.m., Anti-Bullying Awareness Night
Saturday, 4 to 10p.m.
Sunday, noon to 6p.m.
To learn more about Rotary, go to www.rotary7450 or attend a Rotary meeting. The Glen Riddle rotary meets for lunch Tuesdays at Barnaby’s, Rte. 452, Aston. The Concordville Chadds Ford Rotary meets for lunch Wednesdays at the Maris Grove community in Glen Mills.
