Mansfield Brass To Perform In FREE Traveling Concert

The Mansfield Brass Quintet will be perform Christmas carols outdoors in the Gladstone Manor section of Lansdowne from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22 (weather permitting).
The Gladstone Manor section of Lansdowne updated it's very picturesque turn-of-the-century style street lamps last year with a newer, brighter, and more energy efficient but, similar, style.  The Mansfield Brass, so named from the street that its leader Paul Del Rossi lives on, will be playing Christmas carols under these beautiful street lamps.
Del Rossi plays trumpet in the quintet and has been providing the neighborhood with Christmas carols the Saturday prior to Christmas day for the last 14 years.  In fact, the Mansfield Brass was born 14 years ago performing this unique traditional Brass Choir Christmas event.  This year is going to be terrific as it will feature the full five-piece brass group instead of the three-piece group of its early years.  The Mansfield Brass will include carolers again this year, for the fifth year in a row, to accompany them.
The original Salvation Army arrangements of the classic Christmas carols will be used for everyone's enjoyment.  These arrangements are truly unique and have a most unusual harmony.  They are rarely heard at Christmas time with the full instrumentation of the Brass Quintet for
which they were written.  There will be no charge for the event but visitors may have to drive around Gladstone Manor to find the Mansfield Brass, as they will be traveling from street light to street light.  They will start under the light at the corner of Mansfield Road and Madison Ave.  They will then travel down Madison Ave. to the Gladstone Train Station and then up Walsh Ave.  They will finish at the entrance to the community where the large Christmas tree was recently lit to signal the start of this festive holiday season.  For more information about the event or about the quintet, which is available to play all functions, please call 610-284-2980 or visit www.MansfieldBrass.com<http://www.mansfieldbrass.com/.

FREE Holiday Railroad Open Houses Available
StARR, (St. Alban’s Railroad,) will host its 22nd annual open houses from 7-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, and from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 29-30, Jan. 12-13, 26-27, Feb. 9-10, 23-24.  The best time to visit is between 2:30-3:30 p.m. No admission is charged, but donations are greatly appreciated.
The railroad now has a completely rebuilt steel mill and a new maintenance of way train. If you missed last season’s open houses, return visitors will also note a new and finely detailed oil refinery, improvements to the Wilson Coke Plant still in progress, and more detail to the tunnel connecting Sonestown with Perkiomen Junction under construction, a great opportunity to see how the railroad is made. Techie alert: All switches on the main line are now controlled by computer assisted central dispatch and the computer assisted signal system is now complete. StARR’s 4,000-square-foot layout, using "state of the art" Digital Command Control (DCC), fills a 4,000-square-foot room with 225 feet of four-track main line and three branch lines. Using a unique custom waybill system for freight and passenger operations, over 900 pieces of rolling stock are routed throughout various eras featured in the eastern Pennsylvanian scenery. Follow the video camera equipped locomotive and see the scenery from the engineer’s perspective! Realistic operations include modules featuring an operating transfer table, electronic turntable and three working freight yards with engine facilities and a large variety of equipment.
StARR has often been termed the "most kid friendly" model railroad group in the greater metropolitan area because the club offers hands on displays. "Thomas the Tank Engine" operates here! Members sometimes offer visiting kids an opportunity to "operate" on the railroad. StARR also operates the "Hogwart's Express" complete with British whistle, so feel free to bring the kiddies! Some of the club's most regular visitors (along with their parents) frequently spend the entire afternoon. Don't miss the informational slide show, on computer, which supplies lot's of details for all visiting rivet counters. Sorry, StARR is not handicapped accessible at this time. For more information visit http://StARR-MRC.org
The Saint Albans Railroad Fellowship (StARR) is an outreach ministry of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 3625 Chapel Road in Newtown Square. The club has been meeting for 22 fun-filled years in the basement under the Thrift Shop. Membership, which includes members from the surrounding five county area, includes a wide range of ages. New members are always welcome. No experience necessary.
