Free Help Available For Elderly
APPRISE:
The Pennsylvania Department of Aging created APPRISE, the State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), to help people with Medicare understand their health insurance options and help them make sound decisions about their health care needs, both physically and financially.
The mission of APPRISE is to inform and advise older consumers, and younger consumers who are on Social Security Disability, about Medicare, Medicare D (prescription drug coverage), Medicaid, Long Term Care Insurance and other benefits that may be available to your depending on your income.
Senior Community Services, APPRISE office is located on the second floor of Friendship Circle building at 1515 Lansdowne Avenue , Darby. Call Kim Andrews, APPRISE Coordinator, at (610) 237-6222, Ext. 124 for an appointment.
THE FAMILY CAREGIVER SUPPORT PROGRAM:
Families who are caring for an elderly disabled relative at home can receive reimbursement for care and personal supplies, depending on eligibility. The Program also offers a Caregiver Support Group, which meets once a month at Friendship Circle Senior Center , 1515 Lansdowne Avenue , Darby.
