Haverford concert
The Haverford High School Music Department will present a concert featuring student members of the national music honor society, Modern Music Masters (Tri-M) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2 at Haverford High School,
300 Mill Road
. The community is invited to attend this free concert to enjoy the talents of Haverford Township’s finest student musicians and vocalists.
The concert will feature individual and small group performances by members of Haverford High School’s band, orchestra and choirs who have been hand-selected by the music staff. All music styles including classical, jazz, and original compositions will be performed by the students.
Tri-M Music Honor Society is an international music honor society for middle and high school students. It is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music and leadership.
Haverford High School has had a chapter within the international organization for about 15 years, and each year about 25 students are selected by the music staff to participate. The students perform in evening concerts and in school assemblies throughout the year.
Marsha Core, choral director, is the sponsor of the group and offers guidance and help. But for the most part, the students themselves organize the event and musical selections. “The students involved in Tri-M make the performances happen and offer encouragement and support for one another’s offerings. It is a privilege – for the selected students, our school and for the community – for Haverford High School to be a part of the international honor society. The program encourages excellence in performance and further, deeper musical study,” adds Core.
The Haverford High School Music Department is renowned for the highly sophisticated music education offered to students. The Haverford High School Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and choirs, including the Chamber Singers and Concert Chorale have received numerous national and international awards for outstanding performances.
“We are excited to present this concert featuring some of the finest students within our music department. We hope local community members will come out to the free concert to support the students and enjoy the musical offerings from our talented young performers,” says Core.
