Free Health and Wellness Fair at Springfield High School
In an effort to continually expand the depth and breadth of resources available to the SHS community, the faculty and staff of Springfield High School are partnering with local organizations to hold their first Education, Health and Wellness Fair on Thursday, Sept. 18. The event will start at 6:00 pm and will run in conjunction with the Open House that evening, making it easy for high school students and families to attend.
"Springfield High School is looking forward to hosting its first Education, Health and Wellness Fair,” shares Jacqueline Litz, LSW and co-coordinator of the fair. “This is an event that is designed to educate students and families in our community about living a healthy lifestyle.  It is an exciting event that will help raise awareness of all matters related to wellness and promote good health and smart decisions.”
The faculty and staff at SHS saw an opportunity to provide a valuable service to students and parents alike. Many people may not even realize what local resources are at their disposal; inviting such organizations to engage with the community was one way to get the word out.  “In today’s society, there are a number of factors which can negatively impact a family,” explains Karen Carty, SHS Special Education Teacher and co-coordinator of the event.  “We felt it was important to provide the Springfield–Morton families with an opportunity to touch base with county resources and supports that are available. This experience affords everyone involved with a choice to be informed, to understand that there are other families having similar experiences and ultimately, to see the desire on the part of SHS to assist our families in any manner that we can provide support. “
Joseph Hepp, principal at Springfield High School, concurs: “With 20 years of experience in education, I have witnessed the growing need to address the gradual decline in the physical and mental well-being of all members of our learning community – students, parents, relatives, and staff,” he explains. “The increased expectations and accountability placed on these individuals increases each year. To make an effort to address these concerns, we are very excited to bring the expertise and knowledge of a variety of service agencies to our learning community to promote health and wellness. The healthier and happier our students, parents and staff are, the more successful we will be.”

(E-mail FREE events to pdegrassa@delconewsnetwork.com).
