FREE Luau Night With Food and Dancing In Delco!

Redwood Community Center Heats Up With Hawaiian Luau Night
Upland’s Historic Playhouse Offers Free Entertainment For Baby Boomers

Delaware County residents can flaunt their Hula techniques when Upland’s Redwood Community Center hosts a FREE Hawaiian Luau Night, 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23.
The Redwood Community Center, well known for its senior activities, which include FREE daily line-dance classes, live entertainment, senior dances and card games, welcomed a new crowd this year with the addition of “Baby Boomer” Fifties Dances. Once again, local favorite, the Good Times band, will entertain the crowd with Hawaiian, Island and other popular tunes at this free community event.
Residents are encouraged to don a Hawaiian shirt, lei, grass skirt or other colorful piece to celebrate the occasion. FREE light refreshments will be served.
In addition, residents in their fifties and older are encouraged to enjoy weekly live entertainment and dances, held from 1-3 p.m. every Tuesday and 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings.  Genres range from Big Band, Swing and Classic Rock and Roll.
The Redwood Community Center, sponsored by Delaware County Council and the Department of Parks and Recreation, boasts the largest permanent dance floor in Delaware County. Situated on 60 acres of parkland that features playground areas, softball fields and picnic spots, the center is ideal for active residents who are interested in local bands, dancing and socializing with neighbors.
All dances and concerts at the Redwood are free and open to the public. New members are always welcome. The Redwood offers ample parking and handicap access. The Redwood is closed on holidays. Cancellations due to inclement weather are announced over KYW radio.
For information about the Redwood Community Center, call (610) 627-2167. A detailed event schedule is available by visiting the county Web site at http://www.co.delaware.pa.us/ and clicking on Parks and Recreation and Upland Park.
