FREE Friday Night Movie

‘Amreeka’ On The Big Screen Friday Night

The Peace Center of Delaware County’s First-Friday FREE Film Series continues 7p.m. Fri. (Dec. 3),   with “Amreeka,” a warm tale of being Muslim in post-9/11 Middle America, written and directed by Cherien Dabis, and starring Nisreen Faour and Hiam Abbass (2009, 1 hr. 36 mins., Rated PG-13  for brief drug use among teens and strong language).
Mouna lives on the Palestinian West Bank and works as a local bank manager while raising her teenage son, Fadi.  Each day, the two drive through potentially lethal checkpoints.  Their situation changes dramatically when Mouna finally succeeds in getting a green card, and the two fly from Jerusalem to Chicago, resettling in the American Midwest post 9/11.   The painful and sometime humorous adjustments for the two are at the heart of this critically acclaimed bittersweet comedy-drama.
The large screen first-friday film showings at the Peace Center of Delaware County are co-sponsored by the Brandywine Peace Community. Doors open for light refreshments at 6:30p.m.  The Peace Center of Delaware County, is  off the corner of Old Marple and S. Sproul Roads, in Springfield,  behind the Mr. Car Wash.
