"Is There a Sears Roebuck & Co. Catalog Home in Your Neighborhood?"
Thursday, November 11, 2010
7:00 PM
Aston Township Municipal Building, 5021 Pennell Road

On Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 7 PM, Aston Township Historical Society (ATHS) is providing another exciting and informative free lecture entitled:  "Is There a Sears Roebuck & Co. Catalog Home in Your Neighborhood?".  This talk follows ATHS' brief quarterly meeting at Aston Township Municipal Building, 5021 Pennell Road, rear entrance, just south of Five Points.

This popular lecture has been developed and given by noted preservationist Jane L. S. Davidson.  It gives an overview of the innovative Sears Roebuck & Company enterprise that allowed untold thousands to achieve the American dream of owning their own home.  Jane uses a PowerPoint presentation to inform the audience of the changes in society and business in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region, and the nation as a whole, that enabled Sears to offer these unique products for over 30 years.  Jane introduces examples of a number of the designs available to the public, explains how it worked and gives tips to identify Sears Kit homes.  Jane's research assistants were fellow Chester County Historic Preservation Network, Inc. board members Dr. Elaine Husted, Ann Bedrick and Bruce Knapp.  A question and answer period will follow.  Everyone is welcome to this FREE event and to learn where these homes exist in our area!
