K-9 Mickey To ‘Talk' To Kennel Club; Community Invited

  Chester K-9 "Mickey,” with his partner Officer Joe Dougherty talking for him, will speak to the Delaware County Kennel Club 7:30p.m., Tuesday (April 9) at Aston township  Building (rear entrance), 5021 Pennell Rd., Aston. The public is invited.
  Officer Dougherty will speak to the members through Mickey's eyes and tell of the travels, accomplishments, dangers, successes, and life at home that Mickey has experienced  in the past 18 months he has been a K-9 Officer in Chester.
  Officer Dougherty has a bit of Irish wit himself, so his talk will be both interesting, educational and fun.
  K-9 Mickey will also demonstrate his abilities and will be assisted by Aston Officer Mikel Jones and his partner, K-9 Jax.

  The 3rd annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Hepford Park off Pennsylvania Avenue, 5th Ward, Nether Providence Township. Families can have their photo taken with the ChickFila Cow and at 10:00 AM make a mad dash to collect Eggs stuffed with candy, free kids meal coupons, collect sippy cups or stuffed animal baby cows. Annual Spring Craft Fair at Interboro High School
  The Interboro High School Home & School Association will host their Annual Spring Craft Fair on Saturday, March 23 from 9am to 3pm at the high school. Admission is FREE. Over 60 crafters will offer handmade items including jewelry, decorations, gift baskets, wood work, handbags, candles, clothing, pet treats, sweets  and much more just in time for Easter.  Please stop by for lunch.  We will have Johnny's pizza, Chik Fil A sandwiches as well as many baked treats.  All proceeds will benefit the Interboro Home & School Scholarship Fund.

Author of Hemingway’s Boat to appear at Ridley Township Library
  Join us on Wednesday, April 17th at 6:30 pm for the opportunity to meet local author Paul Hendrickson, writer of the acclaimed Hemingway’s Boat, Everything He Loved and Lost 1934-1961. During the years 1934-1961, from Hemingway’s pinnacle as the reigning monarch of American letters until his suicide, the one constant in his colorful but troubled life was his beloved boat, Pilar. Hendrickson, a National Book Critics Circle Award Winner, will talk about his book, answer questions and sign copies. Hendrickson spent seven years writing the book, which offers a fresh slant on the rise and fall of a father figure of American literature. The book was a national best-seller and a finalist in biography for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The Chicago Tribune awarded it its annual Heartland Prize, and it was named one of Publishers Weekly’s Top 10 Books of 2011.Before joining the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Provost’s Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2005, Hendrickson worked for thirty years in daily journalism. My Career Transitions meetings/forums are held the second Saturday of the month, 9:45 – 11:45 a.m., at Penn State’s Great Valley campus, Main Building, Room 130/131, 30 East Swedesford Road, Malvern, Pa, 19355. There is no meeting in August or December. 
WHY
My Career Transitions was started in 2005 by Penn State alumnus Bart Ruff and was named the number one networking association by the Philadelphia Business Journal in 2011. In the past five years, the group has helped more than 4,000 area professionals navigate job transition. The group has accomplished this without funding; it relies on the efforts of a dozen volunteers who contribute their time and talent as a way to “pay it forward” and help others. Today, the meetings are presented in partnership with Penn State Great Valley’s Alumni Society.  On average, 130 people register for each monthly meeting.

Free Family Addiction Program Offered
    Each month PRO-ACT (Pennsylvania Recovery Organization–Achieving Community Together) hosts a Family Addiction Education Program to help individuals and family recognize and address an addiction problem in a spouse, parent, child or other loved one.
  The next session begins April 2.
  Led by trained volunteers who have been in the same situation, the information and support programs begin on the first Tuesday of each month and run for three consecutive Tuesdays from 7 to 9p.m. at Holcomb Behavioral Health Services in Media.

  Chronic illness can result in reduced activity levels, leading to one’s functional decline.  Learn about and practice “Mindful Exercise”, defined as “low-moderate” physical coupled with a significant meditation/contemplative and breath work component.  Mindful exercise can improve muscle strength, posture, balance, self-efficacy and confidence, thus enhancing one’s quality of life.

Charles Eisenstein Offers Free Lecture At Pendle Hill

  Charles Eisenstein. teacher, philosopher, and author of numerous print and online writings including “Sacred Economics: Money, Gift, and Society in the Age of Transition,” will speak on “The Space Between Stories,” 7:30 to 9p.m., Monday (April 1) in the Barn at Pendle Hill. The interactive presentation is free and open to the public.
  His theme encompasses the current transition of civilization, which mirrors that of many individuals: an old world falls apart and eventually we step into a new. As that happens, much that was once certain disintegrates, and our old ways of making choices and effecting change become obsolete, according to Eisenstein.
  Eisenstein’s presentation encourages participants to ground themselves more solidly in the new world and consider how this impacts everyday living.

Delaware County Link To Aging And Disability Resources To Host Free Landlord Breakfast

      The Delaware County Link to Aging and Disability Resources will host a free landlord breakfast   8 to 10a.m., Friday (April 19) at Generations Restaurant, 9 State Road, Media. The event is open to current and prospective landlords and will provide landlords with available resources and services when renting to low income individuals, seniors, and persons with disabilities.
  The Delaware County Link to Aging and Disability Resources is a network of agencies utilizing collective resources to most efficiently connect seniors and those with disabilities to the best programs and services to meet their individual needs. The County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) is a partner agency in the Link.
     Speakers will discuss topics such as fair housing, landlord-tenant law, and the Housing Choice Voucher Program. A representative from COSA will speak about services available to help keep tenants in their homes. Landlords can learn how to list available rental units on PAHousingSearch.com. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.

SmokeFREE Offered At Riddle and YMCA

  Main Line Health is offering a  FREE smoking cessation program called SmokeFREE. The next meeting, 6-8 p.m., March 28, at Riddle Hospital, will be held in the Administrative Annex conference room B. The hospital is at 1068 West Baltimore Pike, Media.
  Another smoking cessation program meeting will be held 6-8 p.m., March 28, will be held in the Upper Main Line YMCA. The YMCA is at 1416 Berwyn-Paoli Road, Berwyn.

Holy Thursday Dinner At St. Timothy

  St. Timothy Lutheran Church in Aston will host its annual Holy Thursday dinner at 6p.m., March 27.
  Parishioners and guests will enjoy a pot luck dinner, followed by a service of Holy Communion in which the congregation will receive communion from each other.
  There will be a Good Friday service at 7:30p.m. March 29.
  On Easter Sunday, March 31, there will be two services, a traditional one at 9:15a.m. and a contemporary service at 11:15a.m., each with Holy Communion.

  Middletown Township Set Date For 19th Annual Community Day
   Middletown Township will host its 19th Annual Community Day at Penn State Brandywine 11a.m. to 3p.m., Saturday (May 11). This FREE fun-filled outdoor event brings together the community, local businesses and township government to celebrate the hometown pride of Middletown Township.
  The event is organized by Middletown Township Parks and Recreation in conjunction with the Middletown Township Business and Professional Association. The objective is to provide a way for the community to come together and enjoy Middletown Township and all that it has to offer.
  The event will begin with opening ceremonies, which will highlight Riddle Hospital’s 50th Birthday -- the theme of this year’s festival. Local entertainment for all ages will be featured, including games, pony rides and an appearance by “The Berenstain Bears,” as well as a array of musical talents, including a teen music festival comprised of student bands and performers, which will be hosted by the Penncrest Junior Optimist Club.
  Local restaurants and vendors will provide food, games, prizes and more. Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization that provides less fortunate children with everyday essentials, will collect new and gently-used toys, clothing, shoes and other basic needs for children in the five-county area.

Arbor Day Foundation Offers Free Trees

  Area residents who join the Arbor Day Foundation during March will receive ten free white flowering dogwood trees.
  Dogwoods are known for their scarlet autumn foliage and red berries. The free trees are part of the non-profit Foundation's Trees for American campaign.
  The trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting, now through May 31, with enclosed planting instructions. The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow or they will be replaced free of charge.
  Arbor Day Foundation members also receive a subscription to “Arbor Day,” the Foundation's bimonthly publication, and “The Tree Book,” which contains information about tree planting and care.

Paoli Baptist Church, 33 E.
