FREE Workshop for Parents, Grnadparents And Teachers

RIDLEY COMMUNITY PARENTING FORUM

Parenting the Texting Generation
Analog Parenting in a Digital World

The Ridley Park Presbyterian Church in partnership with community leaders is sponsoring a community parenting forum at the Ridley High School, 901 Morton Avenue, Folsom, PA with speaker Jonathan McKee on October 16, 2010  at  7:00 PM. All parents, grandparents, and teachers are invited to attend this FREE event.

The Youth Group leaders of Ridley Park Presbyterian Church were moved by several recent tragedies involving teenagers in the Ridley and Interboro communities. Instead of accepting the notion that bad things happen, they decided to take positive steps to see that good things happen. Thus the idea of an ongoing series of parenting forums for the community was born.
Joined by community partners including the Ridley School District, many athletic associations, churches and business leaders, plans were laid to support parents in the community.

The first event will be on the topic of "Parenting the Texting Generation" with author and speaker Jonathan McKee. This seminar encourages parents that they CAN make a difference in the lives of their kids, and equips them to do just that. Jonathan gives us a glimpse into the highly sexualized world of youth culture and exposes the media messages your kids are immersing themselves with. Learn how to filter these influences and teach our kids discernment. Discover how to build lasting values and glean a few ideas that will help you open the channels of communication in your house.

This event is free and all parents, grandparents, and teachers are invited to attend. Babysitting for K-6 age children is provided. Teachers are eligible to receive Act 48 credit and are advised to bring their Pennsylvania Department of Education code with them to electronically report the credits.

Jonathan McKee is the author of Connect: Real Relationships in a World of Isolation, Do They Run When They See You Coming, and Getting Students to Show Up.
