FREE Swedish Museum Holiday Event

Ring in the Holidays with the
Swedish Museum Singers’ Christmas Concert
at the American Swedish Historical Museum
Tuesday December 14th, 2010 at 7pm

Warm of up with a mug of glögg and spiced Swedish gingerbread cookies, and enjoy the sounds of the Swedish holiday music as performed by the Swedish Museum Singers. The choir is made up of both Swedish and non-Swedish speakers, who sing traditional Swedish songs of the season, as well as a few Swedish renditions of American Christmas classics. All are welcome to attend and admission is FREE.

The SMS is currently under the direction of Carol Gutknecht, an internationally-known opera and concert singer who made her New York debut in 1980 with New York City Opera at Lincoln Center during the managerial tenure of Beverly Sills.  She has sung leading opera roles in every major US and Canadian city including Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Seattle, San Francisco and Toronto. Ms. Gutknecht's academic appointments have included professorships at McGill University, Montréal, Québec; Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Virginia and DePaul University, Chicago.  She has traveled to Austria and Germany on a Faculty Professional Grant and to the United Kingdom and Japan on faculty exchanges.

The American Swedish Historical Museum is located in scenic FDR Park at 1900 Pattison Avenue in South Philadelphia near the Sports Complex.  Plenty of free parking is available.  For those taking public transportation, the Broad Street Subway’s Pattison Avenue stop is within walking distance, or SEPTA’s Route 17 (Naval Base) can bring you right to the Museum.
