After Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, a four year civil war destroyed much of the city of Dubrovnik, the jewel of the Dalmatian coast. Join Jeff, Horticulture Coordinator for the Scott Arboretum as he travels to see restored Dubrovnik, the coast of Croatia, the inland capital of Zagreb. Also experience side
trips to two adjacent independent countries that were formerly a part of Yugoslavia‐‐Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina‐‐both of which are still recovering from the war. Beautiful coastline, the blue Adriatic Sea, Mediterranean plants, friendly locals, fresh seafood and local wines, botanic gardens, and backyard and commercial
fruit and vegetable production are all part of the tour!
Free and open to the public, Travels at Twelve are an informal way to share what has been seen and discovered in various gardens and natural spaces both in the United States and abroad. Held from Noon to 1 p.m. in the Lang Performing Arts Center Cinema at Swarthmore College. Contact the Scott Arboretum Offices at 610-328-8025 for more information and parking.
The Scott Arboretum is an educational garden of ideas and suggestions. Covering more than 300 acres of the Swarthmore College Campus and exhibiting over 4,000 different kinds of plants, the Arboretum displays some of the best trees, shrubs, perennials, and annuals for use in the Delaware Valley. Established in 1929 as a living memorial to Arthur Hoyt Scott, the Arboretum is open to the public year-round free of charge, from dawn to dusk. Adam Levine in the November/December 2002 issue of Garden Design magazine described the Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College as "the most beautiful campus in America." Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, please call the Arboretum Offices at 610- 328-8025.
