Springfield Historical Society To Present Program On Marcus Hook Artifacts
Springfield Historical Society will present a free slide program and talk by Mike Manerchia 7:30 p.m. Tues. (March 15) at the Springfield Township Building, 50 Powell Rd.
Manerchia purchased a house in Marcus Hook, which had been in his wife's family for 100 years. While renovating the house, he began finding a treasure of artifacts. Archaeologists and historians determined that the house was a "1680 plank log cabin,” which is an historical 'gold mine'.
Blackbeard, the pirate, was a known visitor to the Port of Marcus Hook in the 1700's and used to visit his mistress, Margaret, who lived in this house.
Refreshments will be served following the program.
