SAM RIDDLE: A MAN & HIS HORSES
by Kay Ferrari, Independent Scholar
Legendary horseman Samuel D. Riddle's father purchased mills at Pennsgrove on Chester Creek in 1843.  In 1854 the area was renamed Glen Riddle to prevent mail from being delivered to Pennsgrove, New Jersey.  Kay Ferrari has been interested in horses since she was a child and soon developed an interest in Man o' War, Sam Riddle and Glen Riddle Farm.  Her extensive research has led her to become an authority on Riddle, his family, and his horses including Man o' War and his most famous foal, 1937 Triple Crown winner, War Admiral.

TRAINS AND TROLLEYS THROUGH MIDDLETOWN
by Stan Bowman, Independent Scholar
Construction of the Philadelphia and West Chester Railroad began west from Philadelphia in 1852.  In 1855 the high bridge over Ridley Creek was built and by 1856 the first rail line in the Township ran from Greenwood (later Elwyn) to Grubb's Bridge (today's Wawa).  From the early 20th century into the 1930s there were two electric trolley lines that served Middletown.  Join rail expert Stan Bowman for this program on rail lines in the area regularly used by Township residents.

This schedule is subject to change, for up-to-date information please visit our website www.mthsdelco.org or call 610-316-5620.  This program has been supported in part by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council, the Federal-State Partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities (http://www.pahumanities.org/).
