Collingdale – First Baptist Church is offering FREE ‘Christian Ministry Teacher Training’ in their Education Building at
814 Andrews Avenue
. The training will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Saturday March 3rd, 2012. The schedule for the day will be as follows: 9:00 AM – Welcome/Instructions; 9:30 AM – Learning Styles; 10:30 AM – Nature and Needs of Children; 11:30 AM – Dealing with Disabilities; 12:15 PM – Lunch Break (Hoagies/chips/beverage available for $3.00); 12:45 PM Lesson Planning Workshops.    The Marple Tree Commission and the Marple Public Library will present a FREE Spring Workshop Series: Yardening: Understanding and Caring for Your Landscape. 

  • What You Always Wanted to Know about Managing Your Yard and Were Afraid to Ask will be held March 6th. Learn how to creat a wildlife habitat, the difference between native and non-native plants and the element that are inmportant to any yard.
  • On March 20th, All about Woody Plants: The Trees and Shrubs in Your Yard.  Learn how to choose the right woody plants for you, how to avoid making common planting mistakes and how to care for your trees and shrubs. 
  • The Truth About Perennials will be offered April 3rd.  Learn the difference between perennials and annuals, how to choose and casrd for you perennials and why perennials are important.
  • On April 17th, Boost You Curb Appeal with annuals.  Learn how to add color to you landscape, choose and care for annuals, 20 difference uses for annuals and interesting ways to use a container planting.
Teachers are: Rick Ray, taught horticulture at Temple and Delaware Valley College and currently teaches a course at the Arboretum Scholl of the Barnes Foundations, Liz Ball hoticultural writer, photographer and teacher, Ray Murphy, professional gardener at Nemors Mansion Gardens in Wilmington Delaware and BJ Hensil, horticultural instructor at Upper Darby High School and owner of Exquisit Landscapes.

    Crozer-Keystone 'Goes Blue' with a range of events to raise awareness of colorectalcancer.
 In addition to educational events, the health system will also offer FREE screenings.
   Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths, but it is highly treatable if detected early.
   Screening appointments are recommended for those over the age  of 50 (or younger if there is a family history of colorectal cancer) who have not been previously diagnosed with colorectal cancer, who have not had a colonoscopy in the last 12 months, and who are not currently undergoing treatment for colorectal cancer. Screenings consist of rectal exam, hemeoccult test, plus a take-home test kit with instructions.
Screenings will be held:
  March 1, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Crozer Regional Cancer Center, One Medical Center Boulevard, Upland.
  March 12, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Springfield Hospital, Center for Occupational Health, 190 W. Sproul Rd., Springfield.
  March 20, 5 to 7 p.m.: Delaware County Memorial Hospital, Delaware County Regional Cancer Center, 501 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill.
   March 21, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake, Crozer-Keystone Regional Cancer Center, 500 Evergreen Drive, Glen Mills.
   March 29, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.: Taylor Hospital, Short Procedure Unit, 175 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park .
