Exhibit To Honor Renown Architect
The Episcopal Academy will host a gallery exhibit honoring Pritzker Prize winning architect, Robert Venturi, from March 1 through April 15 in the Crawford Campus Center Gallery.
The exhibit will highlight Venturi's work on Episcopal's Chapel and the 50 years it took for the project to come full circle.
An opening reception, which will include remarks by Venturi and a short film on his work on the Episcopal Chapel, will take place, 5:30p.m., Wednesday (March 7) in the Crawford Campus Center Gallery. The event is FREE and all are welcome. To attend, e-mail Bruce Konopka at bkonopka@episcopalacademy.org or call 484-424-1779.
Venturi, a 1944 graduate, is the founding principal of the firm Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates, and one of the major figures in the architecture of the 20th century. Together with his wife and partner, Denise Scott Brown, he helped to shape the way that architects, planners and students think about architecture and the American-built environment. Their buildings, planning, theoretical writings, and teaching have contributed to the expansion of discourse.
Venturi was awarded the Pritzker Prize in Architecture in 1991 and he was awarded the Rome Prize Fellowship at the American Academy in Rome in 1954, where he studied and toured Europe for two years.
Venturi attended school at The Episcopal Academy and graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University in 1947. He received his MFA from Princeton in 1950. While at Princeton, Venturi created a design for a new Chapel at Episcopal. Over 50 years later, in 2007, he was able to bring this dream to fruition when he designed The Class of 1944 Chapel on Episcopal's Newtown Square campus.

FREE Program For Schools and Community Organizations

Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems (HBHS) has launched its newest public awareness campaign, "The Blunt Truth.” The media campaign focuses on educating adolescents and parents in Delaware County about the harmful effects of marijuana use.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), daily marijuana use increased among eighth, tenth, and twelfth graders from 2009 to 2010. Among twelfth graders it was at its highest at 21.4% since the early 1980’s when it was at 6.1% (NIDA, 2010).
Teens have many misconceptions about the effects of marijuana on the brain and body, and "The Blunt Truth" aims to debunk the myths. In addition to addressing common myths and facts surrounding marijuana use, Holcomb will provide FREE speaking engagements to schools and communities and disseminate a county-wide internet survey to different target populations.
In Delaware County, the campaign is coordinated by Holcomb Behavioral Health Systems through funding from the Delaware County Office of Behavioral Health, Division of Drug and Alcohol Services.  To learn more about "The Blunt Truth," contact Prevention Specialist Kevin Gallagher at kgallagh@holcombbhs.org or call 484-444-0412.
