FREE Dining With The Docs Session

MERCY FITZGERALD HOSPITAL TO HOST DINE WITH THE DOCS, SPECIAL HEART HEALTHY EDITION
February 21st session to feature free screenings and Heart Healthy Tips
Darby, Pa. (February 14, 2012): Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital, a member of Mercy Health System, will host a free Dine with the Docs session on Heart Healthy Tips for 2012 during February’s American Heart Month. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, February 21 in the hospital’s Norman N. Cohen, MD Auditorium, located at 1500 Lansdowne Avenue.

“We encourage the community to come out and join us for this event,” said Joseph Conroy, DO, FACC of Mercy Cardiology. “Regardless of age, it’s important to understanding the risk factors, have the right information and be able to ask questions regarding your cardiovascular health. Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is committed to arming our community with the information and tools to help mitigate the risk and take control of their heart health.”

Along with Dr. Conroy, Cardiac Rehab Expert Erika Staab and Nutritionist Danielle Dimarco will speak at the session featuring free blood pressure screenings, a complimentary dinner and giveaways.

Registration is preferred, and individuals can register via www.mercyheartcare.org/hearttalk or by calling 1.877.GO.MERCY (466.3729). A newly-designed Mercy Health System website also features a variety of heart health information including heart healthy recipes and step-by-step cooking videos for visitors to readily view and use.

Heart disease, including stroke, remains the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States, killing an estimated 630,000 each year. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health, heart disease is the leading cause of death throughout the state, with stroke the third leading cause of death and the third leading cause of disability.

Diabetes, cigarette smoking, family history, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, inactivity and obesity are all risk factors associated with heart disease. The American Heart Association’s Heart Month is an opportunity to join together to educate on the prevalence of cardiovascular disease and raise awareness on these risk factors and preventative measures.
