Winter blues got you blah? Get your Saturday mojo back at the Kimmel Center with the Live from the Plaza Stage, a new FREE concert series part of the Free at the Kimmel offerings on the Commonwealth Plaza stage. 
Center city dwellers and students can fly on the cheap every Saturday night from February 11 to June 16, when Live from the Plaza Stage showcases the best regional talent from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  The series includes world, pop, jazz, instrumental, and dance offerings and shines the spotlight on up-and-coming area talent. 
Wolfgang Puck will be serving up pre-dinner or post-show happy hour specials including $1 off beers and $2 off wines at the PECO and Annex Bars.
Monthly raffle drawings with ticket giveaway winners to select Kimmel Center Presents and Broadway Season shows will be announced at the end of Live from the Plaza Stage performances in the Commonwealth Plaza

Ginger Coyle

A South Jersey native, Ginger Coyle is one of Philadelphia's latest artists to emerge onto the music scene, weaving conscious lyrics, soulful pop melodies, acoustic guitar and driving piano. She was selected as a winner in Philadelphia Songwriter’s Project last May, and her fan-funded debut album, Homeward Bound, is set for a spring release. Since landing her first demo deal on the Wayne Brady Show in 2003, she has toured with acts like Flobots, Cobra Starship, B.O.B., and Third Eye Blind.

Bash the Trash: African Folktales
Saturday, February 18, 11 a.m. to noon

Bash the Trash builds, performs and educates with musical instruments made from recycled and reused materials. In this show we'll present our own "trashy" take on folk tales from Africa, with instruments inspired by designs from across the continent. We'll spin tales of Anansi - the trickster who turns into a spider - and how he became the owner of all the stories…and of course everyone will build a musical instrument and take it home!  bashthetrash.com

Gateway Hosts Country Line Dance Party
   Gateway Community Church will host a Country Line Dance Party 6 to 10p.m., Saturday (Feb. 25) at the Brookhaven Community Center, 2 Cambridge Road, Brookhaven.
  Young, older, couples and singles -- all are welcome to enjoy a free dinner, dancing and lots of fun as instructor Pepper Walling and her DJ teach everyone how to kick up their heels. Donations of non-perishable food items for the church pantry ministry are optional. Annual Engineering Career Day At Community College
  In recognition of National Engineering Week (Feb. 19-25), Delaware County Community College will host its fifth annual Engineering Career Day Thursday (Feb. 23) at the Marple Campus, 901 South Media Line Road. Tours of the College’s STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Complex will begin at 4p.m., with the formal program running from 5 to 8p.m. Sponsored by the Boeing Company, the event will be held in the main lobby and large auditorium of the Academic Building.
  Anton Germishuizen, Director of Design, Senior Vice President and a member of the Board of Directors at Stantec, will give a keynote presentation on how to achieve success in the global industry. During his 16 years at Stantec, Germishuizen has emerged as a leader in both management and design.
  After the address, participants will have the opportunity to network with representatives from local employers, including Boeing, PA Machine Works, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and Southco. Students and prospective students can also discuss transfer opportunities with representatives from several of the college’s four-year institutional partners including Widener University, Temple University and Penn State Brandywine.
  The College offers both associate degrees and certificates in traditional and nontraditional engineering disciplines. Considered a high-growth, high-wage industry, the field offers a spectrum of career choices, including architecture, manufacturing, electronics, computer networking, construction management and robotics.

St. James To Offer Free Soup On Tuesdays During Winter Months
   St James Church, Route 420, Prospect Park, will hold a free Soup Luncheon 11 am to 2 pm every Tuesday this winter. The lunch is complimentary (donations are gladly accepted) and will feature homemade soup, bread, butter, dessert, and drinks.  
 The hot meal is available to those in the  community, anyone traveling through and anyone desiring a lunch.
   The church, which was in danger of closing earlier last year, is back on its feet and wants to "pay it forward" for all the generous donations it received.

The park will host two job fairs Feb. 11 and 18 from 10 am to 4 pm.  In 2011, more than 15,000 applicants vied for the positions, and park management anticipates a comparable turnout for 2012.

Dining With Diabetes Offered by Friendship Circle Senior Center


Diabetes doesn’t have to overwhelm your life .
The Penn State Extension and Senior Community Services are offering “Dining with Diabetes” on Tuesdays, February. 21, March 6, 13, 20 and March 27, 2012, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at Friendship Circle Senior Center with registered dietitians or certified diabetes educators.  These FREE four consecutive weekly classes and one follow-up session will provide nutrition education, daily meal plans, interactive cooking demonstrations, food sampling, Dining with Diabetes recipe book, AIC test, motivation and support and opportunities to connect with others who are living with diabetes. Learn how to reduce sugar, salt, and fat in food without sacrificing good taste, revise recipes to create health versions of familiar foods, stay on track when you eat away from home, and work exercise into your daily life. Adults with diabetes and their family members, caregivers, and support persons are invited to enroll. Registration is required for this FREE class.
