FREE Tax Assistance!

Tax Assistance Available
Specially trained and certified volunteers are offering free tax help Feb. 2 through April 12 at the Granite Run Mall (Peking Entrance 5, just outside of Sears), with special attention to those ages 60 and older.
Sponsored by AARP in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service and the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, volunteers will provide low-to-middle-income taxpayers with tax counseling, preparation and electronic filing of their federal and state income tax returns.
Montgomery Insurance Agency will provide a copier, Granite Run Mall is providing the space for the program and volunteers tax counselors have committed their time.
To receive free tax assistance, taxpayers should bring a copy of their 2010 tax return and all 2011 tax materials, such as W-2s, 1099s, Social Security, tax and rent receipts. Taxpayers who have sold stocks, bonds, funds and other assets should also have the purchase date and cost basis available.
Assistance is available 8:30a.m. to 12:30p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the Granite Run Mall in Middletown Township.

PathWays Tax Assistance Program at Media-U.P. Library
Media-Upper Providence Library will help put money back into its employees’ and patrons’ pockets by providing free tax assistance through PathWays PA’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
PathWays PA is scheduled to prepare tax returns at the library, 1 E. Front Street, Media, 3 to 7p.m., Thursday (Feb. 23) and 10 to 2, Monday (March 5).
The goal is to help individuals take full advantage of the credits available to working people. The best opportunity is the Earned Income Tax Credit, given to people earning less than $50,000 a year. EITC limitations and maximum refunds have increased for 2011, and a tax filer with three qualifying children may now be eligible for a refund of up to $5,751 through the EITC, according to the VITA program.
Area residents may schedule appointments with one of our volunteers. Each appointment is 45 minutes. Taxpayers should be sure to bring all required documents that are listed on the appointment sheet, which can be mailed or picked up at the library. To schedule an appointment, call the library at 610-566-1918.
