Unlacing the Victorian Woman at Ridley Township Library

When a Victorian woman said she was going to dress for dinner, it may well have been her fourth change of clothes that day! And did you ever wonder what they wore under those fancy, cumbersome dresses? You can find out by attending Unlacing the Victorian Woman, presented by costume designer and historian Barbara Meyer Darlin at Ridley Township Public Library on Thursday, October 7th at 6:30 pm. This popular program has been described as a one-woman fashion show, a social history lesson, and a Victorian striptease! Call it what you will, Unlacing the Victorian Woman is a delightful performance that entertains and instills a contemporary reality to history. As Barbara changes–onstage-into the outfits worn by a turn of the century lady in a typical day, she shows the audience two ensembles for day wear, complete with all the unmentionables. Ms. Darlin earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, and has over 30 years experience in costuming for theater. She draws enthusiastic audience response for her program, which has been presented in museums, schools, and historical societies. Register for this FREE program, to be held in Garling Hall, by emailing reference@ridleylibrary.org, calling 610-583-0593, or stopping in at 100 E. MacDade Blvd., Folsom.
