DCIU Presents Workshops for Parents

Morton, PA – Free workshops to help parents to better navigate the often challenging roadmap of educating their children with disabilities is being held:

Transition Beyond Secondary Programs

Do you have a child with special needs who is in high school?  Is your child over 14 years of age?  If so, this workshop will provide vital information about planning for the next steps.  Parents will learn about the current federal law (IDEA) regulations mandating transition planning and services that should be considered for all special education students.  Parents will be provided information about local, state, and federal resources that are available to support their student’s needs once they graduate from high school to ensure that the child leads a meaningful and productive adult life.

Organizational Skills for Middle and High School Students
Presenter(s): Trish Wolf, DCIU Professional Development Specialist
Does your child in middle/high school have difficulty with handing in assignments on time?  Is he/she frequently unprepared for homework/class work?  As students transition from middle and high school, they are expected to depend less on others to manage their instruction and put energy into becoming self-managing learners. In this workshop we will explore techniques that will help pre-teens and teens master essential self-management and organizational/study skills to increase independence. Topics such as supporting homework and time management will be discussed

 Respite Care Rep To Visit Ridley Twp. Library 
   A representative from Child and Family Focus will be at the Ridley Township Public Library 2 pm Sun. (March 25) to speak with parents about Respite Care.
  The Respite Care Program of Child and Family Focus provides short-term, temporary care to families who need a break from the daily challenges of caring for a child with mental health needs.
