Glenolden Borough To Present Family Movie Night Under The Stars

   Glenolden Borough Park and Recreation Department will host a Movie Night featuring The Three Stooges in Glenolden Park Wed. (August 29).
  Family contests will begin at 7:30 pm, followed by the movie at 8:30 pm. This is an event for the entire family to enjoy together with other members of the community.

‘Cradle of Birding’ Festival on September 15 at Heinz Refuge-and it's all FREE!

   The John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum will be hosting its annual "Cradle of Birding" Wildlife and Conservation Festival 7 am to 3 pm  Sat. (Sept. 15).  The free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Heinz Wildlife Refuge and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and held in collaboration with dozens of partner conservation organizations.
   This year's featured speaker will be Don Freiday, of the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and formerly Cape May Bird Observatory with a fun filled afternoon program on "How to Identify Birds like an Expert."
  There will be dozens of exhibits and programs including live animal demonstrations. Among the organizations showcasing their animals will be the Philadelphia Zoo, The Academy of Natural Sciences, Wagner Free Institute, NJ Adventure Aquarium, Delco Bird Club, Inc., Feathered Sanctuary Exotic Bird Rescue, Schuylkill Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and Tri-State Bird Rescue and more.
  Numerous workshops and demonstrations  are planned including birding, nature photography, fly tying, fishing, bird identification, native plants, butterflies and woodcarving.
   There will be 3 early morning bird identification walks, "Birding for Kids" classes, "Birding by Ear",  and  "Beginner Birding" workshops and  "Introduction to Nature Photography" workshop.
  Special interpretive trolley tours of the refuge will run 9 am to 2 pm and there will be a free hot dogs and soft drinks for all in attendance.
  Along with all the workshops, tours, and exhibits, music will be provided by the RSVP band and Tinicum's own environmental troubadour, Glen Waldek.
   The Friends of the Heinz Wildlife Refuge Photo Group will be recognizing the winners of this year's Photo Contest. This will also be an opportunity to see the photography work from the Refuge Photo Group on display in the visitor center’s auditorium.

Kennel Club Offers Free Presentation On Holistic Treatment For Dogs


  The Delaware County Kennel Club will host a talk entitled “Firness Four Paws” 7:30 pm Tuesday (Sept. 11) at the Aston Twp. Meeting Room, 5021 Pennell Rd., Aston.
  Guest speakers Kathy McCarry and Anne Harvey of Stoney Creek Veterinary Hospital in Morton will speak about providing quality holistic treatment for performance and working dogs. Attendees will have an opportunity to see massage therapy as well as laser treatment performed on a special K-9.
  The Delaware County Kennel Club will offer the talk free of charge as a community service. All are welcome, but seating is limited and on a first come, first served basis.

FREE Meet The Candidates Night Planned
  The Delaware County Tobacco-Free Coalition invites all of the constituents of Delaware County  to a “Meet the Candidates-Open Forum” 5:30- 8:30 pm Thurs. (Oct.  11) at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, 200 Yale Avenue, Morton.
  The free public event is a unique opportunity for the public to share its views on Health/Health Care  and/or Environmental Issues affecting Delaware County citizens.
   The evening will include a health fair, light refreshments, education, and a brief networking session. Each candidate will then have three  minutes to share his/her views on a  selected topic.  A question and answer period will follow the speakers and guests will be encouraged to inquire about other topics of interest to them in this election year.   Registration is requested but not required.
