FREE Health Fair Coming Up!
The Delaware
County Women’s Commission is partnering with Delaware County Council to hold
its third annual Wellness Fair, and this year the women are opening the event
to men, recognizing that health and wellness are everyone’s priority.
County
employees and residents are invited to come to the Government Center, 201 W.
Front St., Media, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sept. 18 to take advantage of health and
wellness information and screenings. The Wellness Fair is free and open to all.
The Wellness Fair
is organized by the Delaware County Women’s Commission (DCWC), the Friends of
the DCWC, and the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity Health. These
organizations partner with representatives from local hospitals and agencies to
address health care needs. The
participants are being coordinated by Crozer-Keystone Health System (CKHS).
“Our
goal is to provide everyone with current and comprehensive health and wellness
information and to provide them with an opportunity to get some of the
screenings that are key to prevention,” said Delaware County Councilwoman
Colleen Morrone, Council’s liaison to the Department of Intercommunity Health.
“The
first two years, we held a Women’s
Wellness Fair to reach out to women who tend to put the health needs of their
family members before their own, but we heard from several men that they wanted
to participate to. So this year’s Wellness Fair is open to everyone,” Mrs.
Morrone said.
At
the Wellness Fair, people can get blood pressure screenings, fitness and nutrition
tips, stroke risk assessment, osteoporosis heel scans, information on cancer
and diabetes treatment, and preventive health tips.
Participants in
the 2013 Wellness Fair include the Delaware County Department of Intercommunity
Health, Crozer-Keystone Community Health Education, Delaware County Tobacco
Free Coalition, Crozer Keystone Medical Imaging, CKHS Volunteer Services, CKHS
ER3, CKHS Sleep Centers, ChesPenn Health
Center, Women Against Rape, Domestic Abuse Project, Delaware County Family
Engagement Workshop, Women’s Resource Center, Pathways PA, Family Support Line,
CKHS Center for Diabetes, CKHS Cancer & Health Line Services, Mercy
Fitzgerald Hospital, Health Care Solutions of Delaware Valley, Delaware County
Health Literacy Coalition, among others.
“We encourage men
and women of all ages to come and visit the Wellness Fair to discover new ways
to care for yourself, find time for yourself and manage your physical well-being,”
said Women’s Commission Chair Theresa M. Agostinelli.
For information
about this Wellness Fair, contact Chris Seibert at 610-713-2306.

National security expert speaks
in Delco Sept. 11
The Delaware County Patriots will host a national security expert to
talk 7 pm Wed. (Sept. 11), a date few Americans
will ever forget. September 11th
is the anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the World Trade Center in New York by
radical Islamist forces where thousands of Americans died in one day. September 11th is the anniversary of another
attack—again by radical Islamist forces—of our consulate in Libya.
Dr. Bucci has said, “The American people
deserve the truth. This is not a
partisan demand, but on a number of issues, answers have been incomplete,
contradictory, or nonexistent. That is
simply not acceptable, regardless of who does it. Any light that can be shed is
worth the effort.”
Dr.
Steven Bucci has been at the forefront of national security issues, having held
many high level positions both inside and outside of government. He currently serves as the Director, Allison
Center for Foreign Policy studies. He is
also a Senior Fellow at the Heritage Foundation for all issues involving Homeland
Security and Defense.
Dr. Bucci’s distinguished career has given him an insider’s look into
the world of national security, including cyber security, and the people and
policies that administer it.
All are invited to come and hear what promises to be an eye opening look
into what is happening in America’s national security arena today. The event will be held at the Knights of
Columbus on Route 252 in Newtown Square. Seating is limited so reserve a spot by calling 610-572-3442.

and the surrounding counties on Wednesday, September 18, between 5 and 8
p.m. Members of the public can access the service by calling the
Association’s LegalLine P.M. hotline at (215) 238-6333.

business law or any other aspect of the law including family law,
landlord-tenant, workers’ compensation and employment law, among other topics.
LegalLine
P.M. is a public service sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the
Philadelphia Bar Association, providing residents with free, quick and accurate
legal advice during convenient evening hours. LegalLine P.M. is

Gateway invites community to engage in 'The Story'
The Bible is the best-selling book in history, but how
many people in Delaware County are actually reading it? A Gallup survey
reports the average American household has four Bibles. However, research
by Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life (2008) found that only 16
percent of Americans read the Bible every day.
Gateway Community Church is hoping
to reverse the trend, starting with its own congregation. Pastor Gary
Gaertner believes thatThe Story, a Zondervan best-seller, is the right tool to
increase Biblical literacy, helping readers understand God’s story from Genesis
to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s. Consisting
of 31 chapters of carefully-selected scriptures sequenced in chronological
order, The Story presents the word of God in an engaging format,
reading like a novel.
The Story Church Campaign is a
unique, FREE program providing up to 31
weeks of curriculum for children, teen and adult Sunday school and up to 31
weeks of corresponding sermons. When accompanied by reading through the
five age-related books (The Story, The Story: Teen Edition, The Story for Kids,
The Story for Children, and The Story for Little Ones), the
entire church can be literally on the same page for 31 weeks. Gateway Community
Church plans to begin the experience 10 am September 15 and invites
the community to participate.
With thousands of participating churches
nationwide, The Story is becoming a movement that is bringing wide-ranging
benefits to local churches. Many have reported increased community outreach,
increased Biblical literacy, congregational growth and a greater understanding
of how God’s story reveals the reasons for the things that happen in man’s
story.
