FREE Series At Community Arts Center

Art Talk in the Ballroom Lecture Series
Begins at Community Arts Center

Wallingford, PA, March 17, 2011 – Art Talk, a new series of informal lectures about the various topics around the theme of Art in America, begins on Sunday, March 27th at 2 p.m. at Community Arts Center,
414 Plush Mill Road, Wallingford, PA.
The opening lecture, What Does Public Sculpture have to Do With Flying Goats? Chagall, Lipchitz and the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in the Early Twentieth-Century, will be presented by Alison Leedy, Tyler School of Art. The free monthly programs encourage open discussions on thinking about, viewing and collecting art and present a local art connection as a window into a larger movement.
The opening lecture discusses the notable works by Chagall and Lipchitz featured in local museums and public places around the Philadelphia area such as the Barnes Foundation and Philadelphia Museum of Art, and in the interest of an upcoming exhibition at the Philadelphia Museum of the Art entitled, "Paris through the Window: Marc Chagall and His Circle," Chagall's artistic relationship with sculptor Jacques Lipchitz will be discussed. Moreover, parallels in the relationship between artistic developments in Philadelphia and Paris during the early 20th century and the various ways these particular artists' works aided in the establishment of Philadelphia's artistic community today will also be discussed.
