The Franklin Institute hosts “The Science of Fireworks” as part of
“Welcome America – Go 4th and Learn”
Philadelphia, PA — June 16, 2011 Start your Fourth of July weekend off right with a trip to The Franklin Institute!  On Saturday, July 2, The Franklin Institute will present “The Science of Fireworks” free from 11am to 1pm by the Benjamin Franklin National Memorial as part of the city’s “Welcome America – Go 4th and Learn” series of events.  Discover what makes fireworks sparkle, whistle, and show brilliant colors.  Uncover the science of pyrotechnic explosions!
Stick around after the demonstration to visit The Franklin Institute’s newest blockbuster exhibition, Mummies of the World: The ExhibitionMummies of the World is the largest exhibition of real mummies and related artifacts ever assembled, featuring an astounding collection of 150 artifacts and real human and animal specimens from South America, Europe, Asia, Oceania and Egypt.  Through modern science and engaging interactive and multi-media exhibits, the exhibition reveals how the scientific study of mummies provides a window into the lives of ancient people from every region of the world, offering unprecedented insights into past cultures and civilizations.
As the most visited museum in Philadelphia, The Franklin Institute truly is the place to be on the 4th.  Take comfort in our air conditioned facility fit for the whole family; utilize our parking garage for the entire day of parkway activities; and stake out a seat nearby for prime viewing of the evening’s firework show above the Philadelphia Museum of Art. 
The Franklin Institute’s “Welcome America – Go 4th and Learn” event will include two presentations of “The Science of Fireworks” at 11:30am and 12:40pm as well as two special story-time readings for children.  The first 200 participating children will receive a free book.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.
