PA Veterans Museum- Always FREE!

Three Pennsylvania veterans with service spanning from World War II to the Vietnam War will share their personal wartime experiences at a special event 6:30p.m., Wednesday (July 13) at the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, 12 E. State Street, Media.
The veterans participating in the event have appeared on the Pennsylvania Cable Network (PCN), a statewide public affairs network.
Media Mayor Bob McMahon and Bob Dimond, both veterans, along with John Scott of Mechanicsburg, will be the featured speakers during the free special event presented by PCN and Comcast.  Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions of the veterans following the presentations.  Light refreshments will be served.
Mayor McMahon served in the Army as an infantry officer in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969. He was an advisor with a mobile unit in three Vietnamese villages.
Dimond serviced his country as an Army combat engineer in Korea from 1952 to 1954.
Scott, a bombardier in a B-24 during World War II, flew 51 missions and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross.
McMahon and Dimond have appeared in the state-wide network’s original series, “Voices of Veterans,” which premiered in May. This new series expanded the oral histories to include World War II, Korean and Vietnam wars as well as those who served during the Cold War.
Scott has participated in the network’s award-winning series, “World War II: In Their Own Words,” which concentrated on the personal wartime experiences of veterans serving during World War II.  His story was one of those featured in PCN’s more recent book, “World War II Reflections.”  Both books will be available for purchase at the event. Scott will be on hand to sign copies of the book which featured his story.
Since 2002, PCN has gathered more than 300 hours of discussions with Pennsylvania veterans from all branches of the armed services.  The series has gained national attention from veterans’ groups and the National Veterans’ History Project in Washington, D.C.  To date, PCN has donated over 150 interviews with state World War II veterans to the National Veterans’ History Project as a means of historic preservation and for educational use now and for generations to come.
“World War II: In Their Own Words” and “World War II Reflections,” are currently available in paperback and audio book formats.  For more information, or to hear a sample chapter of the audio book, visit the PCN website at http://www.pcntv.com/.
