FREE CKHS Events In October

Crozer-Keystone Marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month With a Range of Free Events Throughout October

Crozer-Keystone Health System has planned a range of activities in October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, to raise awareness and provide education about breast cancer and how it can be prevented and treated.

Throughout the month, pink lights will illuminate Crozer-Keystone hospitals. In addition, a breast cancer awareness basket will be displayed in the cancer centers at DCMH and Crozer and in the main lobbies at Springfield and Taylor hospitals throughout the month. The basket will be raffled off on Oct. 31. Feel free to submit your entry to win.
  • Oct. 3, Think Pink Day: All Crozer-Keystone employees will be encouraged to wear pink.
  • Oct. 3, Lunch and Learn Educational Program:“Breast Health/Genetics,” in Meeting Room A at Delaware County Memorial Hospital, noon to 1 p.m. Speaker: Thomas Matulewski, M.D., medical director of the Center for Breast Health at DCMH.
  • Oct. 5, Lunch and Learn Educational Program: “Breast Health and the Role of the Breast Navigator,” in the Terrace Room at the Crozer Regional Cancer Center at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, noon to 1 p.m. Speakers: Mary Rooney, R.N., B.S.N., OCN, breast nurse navigator, and Mary Lou Patton, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., F.S.S.O., F.C.C.M., breast surgeon physician liaison for the American College of Surgeons for Crozer. Lunch will be served.
  • Oct. 5, Chick-Fil-A Partnership: CKHS representatives will be at the Chick-Fil-A restaurants in Springfield and Ridley Park, and at the Granite Run Mall, from 5-7 p.m. to offer breast health information and mammography sign-ups.
  • Oct. 6, Educational Program: “Genetics and the Role of the Breast Navigator,” on the basketball court at the Healthplex® Sports Club. Light dinner will be provided. Registration and dinner at 5:30 p.m., program from 6 to 8 p.m. Speakers: Mary Rooney, R.N., B.S.N., OCN; Virginia Speare, Ph.D., Crozer-Keystone geneticist; and Carol Tanzio, CRNP, Center for Breast Health at DCMH.
  • Oct. 7, Information Tables: Informational tables about breast health and cancer pre-vention will be available in public areas at CKHS hospitals from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Oct. 12: Lunch and Learn Educational Program:“Breast Health,” in the Lower Level Conference Room at Springfield Hospital, noon to 1 p.m. Speaker: Mary Lou Patton, M.D., F.A.C.S., F.I.C.S., F.S.S.O., F.C.C.M.
  • Oct. 17: Lunch and Learn Educational Program:“Breast Health,” in Conference Rooms A and B at Taylor Hospital, noon to 1 p.m. Speaker: TBA.
  • Oct. 18, Educational Program: “Genetics and the Role of the Breast Navigator,” in the Community Room at Crozer Medical Plaza at Brinton Lake. Light dinner will be provided. Registration and dinner at 5:30 p.m., program from 6 to 8 p.m. Speakers: Mary Rooney, R.N., B.S.N., OCN, and Virginia Speare, Ph.D., geneticist.

In addition to these events, Crozer-Keystone will partner with Strath Haven High School, Chick-Fil-A, Upper Darby High School, Lower Merion High School, Garnet Valley High School and the Marple-Newtown Soccer Association to provide breast cancer information and activities at sporting events throughout the month.

All programs are open to Crozer-Keystone employees as well as the community. Pre-registration is necessary.

Crozer-Keystone to Offer Free Vascular Screenings for Peripheral Artery Disease Awareness Month in September

Peripheral artery disease is a condition that could lead to stroke, heart attack and loss of limbs. While one common symptom is leg pain or leg fatigue, many people with PAD experience no symptoms at all. As part of Peripheral Artery DiseaseAwareness Month, Crozer-Keystone will offer free education and screening events in September.

Screenings are available for men and women who meet the following criteria:
  • Anyone who is 50 years or older and has hypertension, diabetes or a history of smoking.
  • Anyone who is 70 years or older.
At the screenings, participants will have their blood pressure tested and will undergo a brief ABI (ankle-brachial index) test.

Screenings will be held at the following dates and locations:

Monday, Sept. 26
1 to 4 p.m.: Free Screenings
Taylor Hospital
175 E. Chester Pike, Ridley Park
Vascular Laboratory, Ground Floor

Tuesday, Sept. 27
2 to 5 p.m.: Free Screenings
Physicians will be available to interpret results.

Thursday, Sept. 29
9 a.m.: Lecture and Question-and-Answer Session
