FREE Provider Fair For Delco Residents With Disabilities

Delco Provider Fair Offers Information To Individuals With Disabilities and Families
The Delaware County Office of Intellectual Disabilities invites individuals and families to a Provider Fair 2-7 pm Oct. 12  in rooms 171-172 at the Delaware County Intermediate Unit in Morton. The event will showcase programs and services that are available to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The Fair will give people a one-stop opportunity to research a wide variety of service providers, including day support programs, companion services, residential services including life sharing, in-home supports, employment supports and respite providers.
People will have a chance to meet with new providers who have recently been qualified to provide services in Delaware County, in addition to traditional providers.
Dr. Susan Proulx, deputy administrator for the County Office of Intellectual Disabilities, said it is important for families to know what services are available to they can choose wisely what is best for their individual family member.
"We invite all consumers and their families, as well as established and new providers, to attend the Provider Fair," said Dr. Proulx.
"In these difficult economic times, we recognize that there is no new waiver capacity for people on the Delaware County waiting list. However, from time to time, we do get openings which we assign to consumers and their families in a priority order," she said. "Our families need to know what service options might meet their needs, in case funding becomes available, or in case they need to change from one service provider to another."
Individuals and families who are waiting for services should attend to learn about the service options so they will be ready when funding becomes available.
Individuals already enrolled in the waiver program can attend to research their choice of services and providers as new programs are always being developed.
Supports Coordinators will also attend the Provider Fair.
The Provider Fair is free and open to the public. For information contact Nancy Lowry, deputy administrator for the Administrative Entity for the county, at 610-713-2154.
