FREE Art Exhibit and Reception

Travels", an exhibition of acrylic and encaustic paintings by Media artist Nancy Markezin will be on display March 1-30 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue, Swarthmore.
The public is invited to the artist's reception, 5-7 p.m., Friday March 2, scheduled as part of Swarthmore’s First Friday.
Markezin, who studied applied arts and graphic design at Penn State, describes herself as a non-objective abstract painter who paints "what my mind sees." She notes that, partly as a result of her training in applied arts and graphic design, her work reflects a desire for color, design and repetition of patterns. Her objective is to convey to the viewer" a certain level of organization, accomplished with both line, color and space."  Her work has been exhibited locally at the Community Arts Center (CAC(, Widener University, and various galleries throughout the Philadelphia area, including 12 years with the 3rd Street Gallery in Philadelphia.
A former Swarthmore resident who lived here in the early years of raising a family, and then spent a number of years out of the area, she says "I am thrilled to be showing in this Swarthmore venue."
When she and her family returned to the Media area, she decided then to pursue a career as an artist.  Today she is very active at the CAC where she is involved in painting, pottery, and the planning of exhibits.  She also spends many happy hours painting in her studio along Crum Creek.
The exhibit is sponsored by Swarthmore Friends of the Arts. For information about Swarthmore Friends of the Arts, visitwww.swarthmorearts.org or call Exhibit Chair Michele Southworth at 610-543-1108.
