Don't forget your FREE Flu Shot TODAY!!!!!!!

FREE flu shots TODAY!!!!! I just came back from getting mine. It was quick, it was painless, and very easy. Go straight to the end of Route 420 and drive right on through the clinic!

Delaware County residents can get a free seasonal flu shot at a Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic being offered by the county, 10a.m. to 2p.m., Friday (Oct. 22) at the Tinicum firehouse, 99 Wanamaker Ave., Essington.
The Drive-Thru Clinic is being organized through the County Department of Intercommunity Health Coordination with the PA Department of Health and the Delaware County State Health Center, and the Delaware County Flu Task Force.
Residents are invited to drive through the firehouse bay, roll up their sleeves and receive inoculations to protect against seasonal influenza. This year, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) expanded its recommendations and now advises that everyone six months and older should get flu vaccine. However, the Drive-Thru Clinic is restricted to ages nine and older. It is recommended that children younger than nine go to their pediatrician.
“This is a great collaboration aimed at keeping our residents healthy this flu season,” said County Council Chair Jack Whelan. “This year, the seasonal flu vaccine includes protection from the H1N1 virus that caused a pandemic last year, in addition to other strains.”
The County Intercommunity Health Coordination department works with the Delaware County Flu Task Force, organized in 2007, to raise awareness about flu prevention and access to immunizations.
The CDC advises the best way to protect against the flu is by getting immunized. While health officials recommend that people go to their family physician for a flu shot, the Drive-Thru Clinic is an alternative for people who have difficulty with ambulation or people who are wheelchair-bound.
“We are pleased that the members of the Task Force, the state Health Center and members of the Tinicum Fire Company are partnering with us to provide this important service for our residents,” Whelan said.
People will be asked to complete a brief screening form while in line. They will be asked if they have ever had a reaction to a flu shot; if they are allergic to eggs; and if they have a history of Gullian-Barre Syndrome. People who are ineligible for a shot will be directed out of line and advised to see their physician.
People are urged to carpool to avoid long lines of cars. There is no reason to arrive early; there is usually a shorter wait during the last half of the clinic. Drivers will be asked to put their car in park and shut off the engine and cell phones while shots are administered.
People are asked to wear sleeveless or short-sleeved shirts so nurses can easily access their upper arm; remove coats and outerwear while waiting in the car.
People are asked to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to be donated at the Drive-Thru Clinic.
