September 10, 2011: Rediscovering Your Career Passion

Through a series of interactive exercises, career expert and author Ford R. Myers demonstrates how to align career direction with one’s innate gifts, goals and preferences. The result is renewed  enthusiasm and excitement for the workday. 

Myers is president of Career Potential, LLC. His firm helps clients take charge of their careers, create the work they love and earn what they deserve. He has held senior consulting positions at three of the nation’s largest career service firms. His articles and interviews have appeared in hundreds of print and broadcast media and he is the author of two books: Get the Job You Want Even When No One’s Hiring and The Ultimate Career Guide.

October 8, 2011: Using Sales Skills to Sell Yourself and Land Your Next Great Job

“Everyone is in sales,” says Todd Cohen, a sales coach, author, and frequent keynote speaker. He works extensively with sales leaders who want to create a sales culture so that more sales happen. In this presentation he shows people in job transition how to employ sales-related skills to identify their personal value proposition, develop a job search strategy like a sales pro, and network for success.

As the principal of Sales Leader LLC, he inspires, advises, and builds high performance sales teams that produce outstanding results. He also provides strategic oversight for sales teams and serves as executive sales coach and advisor to clients ranging from small, rapidly growing start-ups to well-established, large corporations. He is an occasional contributor to the Philadelphia Business Journal, founder of The Innovators Club, and co-founder of LinkedIn Live Philly. 

WHERE

My Career Transitions meetings/forums are held the second Saturday of the month, 9:45 – 11:45 a.m., at Penn State’s Great Valley campus, Main Building,  Room 130/131, 30 East Swedesford Road, Malvern, Pa, 19355. There is no meeting in August or December. 

WHY

My Career Transitions was started in 2005 by Penn State alumnus Bart Ruff and was recently named the number one networking association by the Philadelphia Business Journal. In the past five years, the group has helped more than 4,000 area professionals navigate job transition. The group has accomplished this without funding; it relies on the efforts of a dozen volunteers who contribute their time and talent as a way to “pay it forward” and help others. Today, the meetings are presented in partnership with Penn State Great Valley’s Alumni Society.  On average, 130 people register for each monthly meeting.
