FREE Poetry Reading

Tyme Gallery is proud to feature award winning poet, Naila Schulte. The reading is Thursday March 29th from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Any poets interested in being a featured reader at Tyme Gallery should contact their Poetry Director, Janet Sadler, at fairfieldltd@verizon.net .  An open reading will follow the featured reader.
Naila Schulte (a.k.a Claudia Schulte, Ed.D.) lives and plays at the intersection of words, music, spiritual meandering, philosophical musing, psychological analyzing, healing, and occasional political grousing.  Born in Brooklyn, she studied Philosophy and English as an undergraduate and earned a master's degree in Integrative Education followed by a doctorate in TESOL from Temple.  For 20 of her 30 years teaching in the Philadelphia schools, she slipped in all the poetry writing she could, having discovered its magical powers to motivate students and make them fall in love with the English language.  She published an article on teaching poetry writing in an international journal, and taught the first elective course in Poetry and Songwriting at Bartram High School before retiring in 2007. Currently Naila stays involved in poetry education, studies with Philadelphia poet Leonard Gontarek, edits, and enjoys hanging out in spiritual and artistic communities. A performing singer/songwriter at open mics and other events, she was a winner in the Folk Factory’s People’s Choice contest in 2009.  Her poems have been published in Mad Poets Review and Fuze Anthology.

Naila's workshop information, student anthologies, journal article and dissertation can be found on her website, www.languagepossibilities.com.  She can be reached by e-mail at  ncs.786@gmail.com

So when you come the reading is March 29th from 7:00 to 9:00pm.  The featured reader reads first, with an open reading to follow.  There will also be light refreshments served with a host of over 200 artists to see.  Tyme Gallery is located at 17 W. Eagle Road, Havertown, PA 19083.  For additional information you can call 610-853-1215 or check out their website at www.TymeGallery.com.

The Violette de Mazia Foundation Announces a Special Van Gogh: Up Close FREE Lecture at the Wayne Art Center

Wayne, PA – March 5, 2012 - The Violette de Mazia Foundation is pleased to announce a special lecture, Van Gogh: Up Close, to be held at the Wayne Art Center.  This short talk will be held on March 28, 2012 at 12:30 PM and is free and open to the public.

Presented by Marilyn Bauman, our Director of Education Emeritus, the talk is timed to coincide with the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Van Gogh: Up Close exhibition which focuses on 45 landscape and still–life paintings created by Van Gogh during the last years of his life. Ms. Bauman's lecture will stress Van Gogh’s artistic achievements, not his often told and well-known life story. This allows viewers to understand the two facets of Van Gogh’s creative process: his interest in tangible experiences of the real world, and his adaptation of visual ideas from the work of other artists.

The Wayne Art Center was established in 1930 as the first art center in the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia and offers instruction for all ages in the visual arts, crafts, music, culinary arts, and drama. Each year, they offer nearly 500 classes and workshops, and they also provide a vibrant Summer Art Camp program. The Wayne Art Center serves students in the greater Main Line area, including Delaware, Chester and Montgomery counties. Their exhibitions, lectures, and gallery shop attract over 15,000 visitors each year.
The Violette de Mazia Foundation is an arts education institution sponsoring programs and activities that teach an objective approach to art appreciation. We encourage students to use their senses and their intellect to see the qualities that make a painting a work of art. The Foundation is based on the belief that education is a lifelong activity of growth, development, and change; that life and art are inextricably linked; and that enriching this aspect of our lives is a prerequisite to developing an engaged society. Since its establishment, the Foundation has enrolled students from all walks of life: from academics and senior citizens, to school students and prison inmates.
