FREE Admission To Museums This Saturday
Across
the globe, museums are celebrating their important role in modern society with
the annual International Museum Day. Take part by taking
advantage of free admission and other cool discounts at
participating local museums on Saturday, May 18.
In addition to International Museum Day,
another free-for-all festivity, Art Museum Day, also offers participants free
admission. Both events center aim to highlight museums’ positive impact on the
world.
Visit any one of the participating museums for
the opportunity to take in world-class exhibitions and collections for free.
Between the two events, four museums in the Philadelphia area are welcoming
guests at no charge.
• Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine
Arts: Stop by the North Broad Street art museum for a day of free admission
and a 10-percent discount at the museum store. International Museum Day also
conveniently falls in the midst of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts’ 112th-annual
student art show, which opens this Friday, May 10, so Museum Day participants
get a free look at impressive artwork from up-and-coming student artists.
Participants are also invited to view other exhibits currently on view at the
museum likeModern Women at PAFA: From Cassatt to O’Keeffe and A
New Look: Samuel F.B. Morse’s Gallery of the Louvre.
• Philadelphia Museum of Art:
Receive free admission to all of the Philadelphia Museum of Art’sbuildings on
Saturday, May 18; the main building, Perelman Building, Rodin Museum and
Historic House Mount Pleasant are all welcoming guests with open arms at no
cost. Visit the museum’s current exhibits; Art of Golf, Great
and Mighty Things: Outsider Art from the Jill and Sheldon Bonovitz Collection, Journeys
to New Worlds and CandyCoated Wonderland. After your PMA
visit, take in the spring weather in any of the gardens or green spaces
surrounding the museum.
• Brandywine River Museum: In

River Museum is hosting a cool exhibit, Ides of March:
The Making of a Masterpiece by Andrew Wyeth. The exhibition features
the painting itself, and dozens of the studies that aided Wyeth in the creation
of the painting.

Art Museum invites guests to take in the museum’s expansive
collection for free for the worldwide museum celebration. Discover photography,
illustrations from notable illustrators, paintings and more at the all day
event.

Senior
Living Expo to be held at Harrah’s on May 17th
To celebrate Older American’s Month, Delaware County Council and the
Delaware County Office of Services for the Aging (COSA) will be presenting a
Senior Living Expo at Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Racetrack in Chester, PA
on May 17, 2013. The event is free, open to the public, and will run from 9
a.m. to 1 p.m. No registration to attend is necessary. Vendors will provide
information on services, products, or programs beneficial to senior citizens.
Blood pressure, diabetes, and other health screenings will be available. A
pharmacist will be present to answer any questions regarding medication.
Information on the Delaware County Senior Games, which will take place in June,
will be provided and those wishing to sign up for the games can do so that day.
There will be plenty of give aways and raffles throughout the event.

‘Spring into Good Health’ with CK Physicians Saturday
Area residents can Crozer-Keystone’s physicians and clinicians for a comprehensive look at women’s health during a special event, “Spring Into Good Health: A Fun, Free Health Event for Women of All Ages,” 8 to 11:30a.m., Saturday (May 18) at the Springfield Country Club, 400 W. Sproul Road, Springfield. Everyone is welcome.
There will be lectures on a variety of topics, including: dizziness and balance, the importance of women’s health screenings, causes and treatment options for hand and wrist pain, heartburn and GERD, making tough medical decisions for loved ones, and more. There will also be a free continental breakfast, informational tables on a range of health topics, and raffles and giveaways from Crozer-Keystone Health System.

FREE LEGAL ADVICE OFFERED BY PHILADELPHIA BAR ASSOCIATION
JUNE 19
The Philadelphia Bar Association will
offer free legal advice to residents of Philadelphia and the surrounding
counties on Wednesday, June 19, between 5 and 8 p.m. Members of the
public can access the service by calling the Association’s LegalLine P.M.
hotline at (215) 238-6333. The June 19 LegalLine P.M. is sponsored by the
Asian Pacific American Bar Association of Pennsylvania.
Area
residents seeking confidential legal advice will be able to speak for free with
a volunteer attorney from the Philadelphia Bar Association. Attorneys
are available to offer information about any aspect of the law including family
law, landlord-tenant, workers’ compensation and employment law, among other
topics.
LegalLine
P.M. is a public service sponsored by the Young Lawyers Division of the Philadelphia
Bar Association, providing residents with free, quick and accurate legal advice
during convenient evening hours. LegalLine P.M. is offered on the
third Wednesday of every month from 5 to 8 p.m. The program has
existed for nearly 20 years, allowing volunteer attorneys to help thousands of
callers through direct service or by referring them to an appropriate source.
In
addition, during regular work hours, the Philadelphia Bar Association offers
another program -- the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) -- which
provides lawyer referrals to area residents. Staff attorneys take
calls from the general public and refer callers to attorneys in private
practice for a 30-minute consultation, for which the attorney agrees to charge
a drastically reduced fee of $30.
If callers
do not need an attorney or cannot afford one, they will be directed to a legal
service organization, agency or other resource for assistance. LRIS
is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., by calling (215) 238-6333.

The Interboro School District Family and
Consumer Science Department will host the “Senior Prom” for area senior
citizens 8:45-10 am Thurs. (May 30) in the Interboro High School Cafeteria.

College Planning Seminar at
Ridley Township Library
A representative from Clarifi will present a
free one hour program on college planning at Ridley Township Library 6:30 pm
Wed. (May 22) in the lower level meeting room. Learn how to be prepared for the
college admissions process from start to finish. Demystify the world of college
financial aid. Hear tips and advice on creating a financial action plan that
works and know where to go for help.

Steve Chase to speak on
Quaker Activism
Author and environmentalist Steve Chase will
present “Revelation and Revolution: Quaker Activism as a Path towards
Faithfulness,” 7:30 to 9p.m., Tuesday (May 21)
in the Barn at Pendle Hill. His
talk will honor Stephen G. Cary, a leader for decades at Haverford College and
the American Friends Service Committee.
The lecture is free and open to the public.

and Sustainability in Keene, NH. He is a frequent speaker and workshop leader
and a local community organizer for the global Transition Town Movement.

‘The Power of Pink’ to offer free mammograms
Crozer-Keystone Health System, the county’s
leading provider of mammography services, will partner with The Power of Pink,
Inc., a local non-profit organization, to offer free mammography screenings in
May for uninsured and underinsured women.
Screening appointments are available at the
following dates, times and locations:
--May 28, 4:30 to 7p.m. at Crozer Medical
Plaza at Brinton Lake, 300 Evergreen Drive in Glen Mills.
--June 3, 3 to 6p.m. at Crozer-Chester

FREE Family Addiction Program Offered
When someone is addicted to drugs or alcohol, the disease affects the entire family. PRO-ACT’s Family Education Program provides information and support. The free monthly program helps individuals and families recognize and address an addiction problem in a spouse, parent, child or other loved one.
Led by trained volunteers who have been in the same situation, sessions begin the first week of each month and run one evening a week for three consecutive weeks, addressing such topics as understanding addiction, impact on the family and developing a support network.
Sessions are free and confidential, using first names only. Pre-registration is required. For Delaware County dates and locations, call 800-221-6333, weekdays between 9a.m. and 5p.m.
