DCCC To Hold FREE Special Art Exhibit, Opening Reception
The Arts at Delaware County Community College will present “Installed: Two Spaces, Two Visions, Two Installations”  April 10-27in the Art Gallery Academic Building, Room 2305, 901 South Media Line Road, Media. For this unique exhibition, Philadelphia artists Dante Blackstone, Nathan Wilson and Linda Yun will install their work a week before the show opens, using the gallery space to spark their creativity.
"Both visions contrast in methods, materials, and concept; however they share the same task. Artists have roughly a week to install their ideas; ideas may change, twist and turn all while the time limit draws closer," says Jaime Treadwell, curator and Assistant Professor of Art at the College.  "The thrilling component of this exhibit is that the audience, including the artists, will not know exactly what they will install until it is installed."
Installed was inspired by the unique design of the College's Art Gallery, which is composed of two adjacent, identical rooms separated by a transparent wall made of glass. Yun, Wilson and Blackstone will install their vision in their assigned room by using elements of that space as the impetus for creation.
Frequent collaborators, Wilson and Blackstone create work together by reclaiming and repurposing materials that are often discarded and/or utilized for other purposes. "Equal parts destructive and creative impulse, we search out a new age populated with structural deifications/defecations and attempt to pinpoint the balance between ridiculous and sublime in precariously improvised explorations of otherwise useless and worthless materials," they say.
All three are active contributors to Philadelphia's contemporary art scene.
An opening reception is scheduled for April 10 from 3  to 7 p.m., and the exhibit is free and open to the public. The gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 610-359-5014 or visit www.dccc.edu/art-gallery.
