FREE ‘First Ladies’ Presentation at Dunwoody

Join the Newtown Square Historical Society on Wednesday, March 19th,   beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Dunwoody Village Auditorium  for the presentation, "First Ladies of the United States," presented by Barbara Falini.
While the men who ran for president sought the post, many of their wives were required to smile, wave, and go along for the ride. These wives were often thrust into high profile positions and then expected to embrace causes, be the dutiful political spouse, and perform flawlessly on the world stage.   Some wives were actually more ambitious than their husband and are the reason why the husband rose so high in the first place.    One wife was the acting president for two years when her husband suffered a disabling stroke.
Please join us in welcoming Barbara Falini as she explores these topics.  A graduate of West Chester and Villanova universities, Falini taught economics and government in the West Chester Area School District for 42 years.  Currently Barbara teaches in the Osher Lifelong Learning project, sponsored by Widener University.
This program is held in the Dunwoody Village auditorium, 3500 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square. The public is always welcome. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided by Dunwoody.

“Living for 32” is the powerful portrait of Colin Goddard, who was shot and wounded while attending a class at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007.   Goddard played a unique role in the horrific drama that day—he was the only person in the building to call the police.  The film is a riveting account of the terror he and his classmates endured and the courageous journey of renewal and hope he chose to pursue in the aftermath of the shooting.
Goddard will introduce the film that tells his story and sheds light on the problem of easy access to guns in American society.  He will remain afterward so that audience members can dialogue with him about his experience, the film, the issue, and how people can join together in the growing movement to effect change.
The free film screening and discussion is being sponsored by Delaware County United for Sensible Gun Policy, a grassroots group working for universal background checks on the sales of all guns and for other common sense gun policies.
